Mary Beth Stover
Drive to Thrive
For Mary Beth, thriving as a single mother took more than just strength, it took determination. Lacking access to a car, she relied on the bus to take her son to childcare, and then on to work at Career Link. Through Wheels to Work—a program started with a grant from the Community Foundation—Mary Beth gained access to a vehicle, and in doing so was able to keep her job, maintain stability for her children, and even take them to the beach for the first time.
From there, Mary Beth committed to taking part in the Atlas Initiative in Columbia, a Community Foundation-funded program by the Community Action Program of Lancaster to help low-income individuals attain their goals. Through her hard work and commitment
to the sustainability of herself and her children, Mary Beth thrived on opportunity, showing that success is more than strength. Through its programming, the Community Foundation works every day to empower members of Lancaster County with the resources they need to thrive.
