George W. McKibbin Scholarship Fund
George McKibbin was born in 1927 in New York City. He served with the US Navy as a radioman third-class aboard the USS Pennsylvania during World War II, and was a 1951 graduate of Wagner Memorial Lutheran College in Staten Island, NY. Upon graduating, George worked as a branch manager for 3M Company throughout Ohio, New York, and New Jersey until retiring in 1976. George celebrated 28 years of marriage with his wife, Gabriela “Ellen” McKibbin. George and Ellen moved to Lancaster, PA in 1986.
When establishing the George W. McKibbin Scholarship, it was important to George to provide financial resources to an African American student that not only has the academic ability, but also a commitment to community service and a commitment to family. George’s intention was to free up a student’s resources, to the greatest extent possible, so that they could devote attention to their studies.
George Warren McKibbin passed away at 76 on 3/29/2003, and we are grateful for his vision and generosity.
