Charles W. Schoff Scholarship

Donate

Charles W. “Charlie” Shoff enjoyed gardening and farming his family’s 73 beloved acres of fields and woods in Martic Township – so much so that he willed a conservation easement on the land to the Lancaster Farmland Trust.  “He wanted to put it in farmland preservation so it would stay a farm.” said his niece, Lillie Keesee.

Charlie Shoff was a self-employed well-drilling contractor by trade.  A member of the Mineralogical Society of Pennsylvania, Charlie served many years as its annual Gem and Mineral Show chairman.  He also was a member of the York Mineral Society.

Charlie’s passion for minerals and agriculture led him to establish the Charles W. Shoff Scholarship, an endowment that provides three, $1,000 renewable scholarships annually to Lancaster County students planning a course of study in Charlie’s passions:  Geology, Agriculture, Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Drafting, or Medicine.

Charles Wesley Shoff passed away at 75 on 12/4/1994, and we are grateful for his dedication to the community.

Quote by Lillie Keesee was provided by an 11/2/1996 Intelligencer Journal article written by Daina Savage.
