The Donald M. Coldren and Colleen Leslie Coldren Memorial Scholarship Awards
Donald and Colleen “Bootsie” Coldren both graduated from Cocalico High School (1947 and 1964 respectively). Decades later, the couple left a gift through their will to create an endowed, annual scholarship for graduates of their alma mater.
Donald and Colleen were also both graduates of the McCanns School of Business. In addition to serving ten years as the Denver Girl Scout Leader, Colleen was a bookkeeper for Dr. Paul Ripple for 27 years. Donald was the former co-owner and Secretary/Treasurer of Berks Welding Supply, Inc. in Reading, PA. He served in the U.S. Army Security Agency during the Korean Conflict, discharged with the rank of Sergeant, and served as Justice of the Peace in the Denver Borough from 1962-1967.
Donald and Colleen were married for 33 years before Colleen’s passing. Together they were members of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Denver, PA, and shared a passion for golf.
Students interested in applying for the Coldren Memorial Scholarship should contact Cocalico High School.
Donald passed away on April 3, 2024 and Colleen passed away on July 16, 2011. The Community Foundation is grateful that their legacy and generosity will benefit Cocalico Valley students every year.
