Jason M. Truitt
Jason Truitt was born February 19, 1977, in Lancaster, PA. In 1985, Jason became the “Little” of Carl B. Vernlund through the Big Brothers Big Sisters program. With his Big Brother, Carl, Jason would go swimming, ice-skating, roller-skating, play countless games of basketball, rent movies, and logged countless hours on Jason’s dreaded science projects. Their connection would last a lifetime.
Jason was a 1995 graduate of Ephrata High School, where he played on the football team, and went onto Penn State, graduating in 1999 with a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering. Jason was a big Penn State fan, and he continued his involvement with the Big Brother Big Sister Program as a mentor himself and found meaning in mentoring youth. Jason enjoyed being outdoors in nature and playing games, especially the card game, pinochole, with his family.
Jason M. Truitt passed away at 32 on 3/5/2009 after a courageous battle with colon cancer.
In Jason’s honor, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lancaster County established an annual $400 scholarship for any current, graduating high school senior or recent graduate who is or was a Big or Little with Big Brother Big Sisters of Lancaster County.
